AaronAaron Head

Aaron is a strikingly handsome 3 year old male with a fluffy red and black coat. His facial markings are as distinct as they are beautiful. Incredibly, he was given up to a local area shelter by his previous family who moved away and could not take him. Aaron came to us a very shy boy, but is really working hard on coming out of his shell more with his foster pack and is making progress daily. He is extremely affectionate with everyone he meets, and really loves being hugged. Although he is clearly more interested in people than dogs, he really enjoys paling around with Hayden, another foster dog in his temporary pack. They have become fast friends, which seems to really be helping Aaron become more open and confident.

Although he is still quite shy, Aaron is starting to become a very affectionate and playful guy around the house. He loves to chase balls, gnaw on chew toys, and just run and play doggie tag in the yard with his pack mates. Aaron appears to be mostly housebroken, and has only had a few accidents in the house. He sleeps comfortably in a crate but would be just as happy on a dog bed in a comfortable location. He rides well in the car, but is just as likely to lay down in the back as stick his head out and sniff.

Despite being an owner surrender, Aaron appears to have had no formal training, and came to use knowing just a few commands. He is learning more each day, and responds well to training exercise, mostly from watching the other dogs around him. He's not very interested in working for training treats, but he will do almost anything for a big hug! For a big guy, (about 87 lbs). Aaron walks surprisingly well on a leash and corrects easily. But because of this sensitive nature you have to be careful not to scold him or he can get sad and withdrawal. He has a soft mouth, and likes chew toys such as Nylabones, but prefers plush toys, and seems to like having one in his crate at night. So far, Aaron has shown little or no interest in the two older resident indoor cats, and does not exhibit much prey drive. However, anyone considering adopting him would do well to introduce him to their cat carefully to be sure he is truly cat safe.

Aaron's ideal day is a nice romp in the yard, a big bowl of kibble, a nap inside the house, a moderate walk, followed by more yard romping, dinner, and a quiet evening laying at your feet. Just be ready to start the day with a big hug and repeat it numerous times each day, and he will be a happy guy! Although he would rather be in the house chillaxing, Aaron is also the kind of boy who will always appreciate exploring the great outdoors. So if you adopt him, plan on getting him out to enjoy the sunshine in your neighborhood or local park often.

Because Aaron has really bonded with his buddy Hayden, we think he would do well in a home with another Dog, but he would probably do well as a single Dog with the right family setting. With his sweet disposition, affectionate nature, and mellow attitude, Aaron would probably be a great fit for a family with younger children. Wherever he finds his forever home, this loving and sweet boy will certainly need to complete a full obedience training course, which will be a great way for his new owners to bond with him!
