AltonAlton Head

Alton is a tall, dark and handsome male approximately 12-18 months old. He weighs about 75 lbs, but could stand to put on about 10 lbs. He came from a Sacramento area shelter and nothing is known about his background.

The first foster home Alton went into had two German Shepherds and an intact male pointer. Alton was fine with the Shepherds, reactive with the pointer. It is not known if it was because the pointer is not neutered or because he was smaller than the other two dogs. He also was reactive w/a neighbor's small dog, therefore, we would recommend a home without small dogs for this boy. Alton is typical of an under-socialized adolescent, he can be reactive and puffs up if he is not sure what to do. Given leadership and a little patience he is learning the proper way to behave.

Alton was moved into a foster home with male and female German Shepherds and met them easily. Alton has been given some freedom inside and so far has been proven to be housebroken. Alton loves his walks, he is not sure what to make of the stream we pass by daily. So far he just watches the other dogs splash around. You can tell he really wants to get in, but is unsure. He is also very interested in wildlife, so it is unlikely Alton would do well in a home with small furry critters.

Alton rides very well in the car and without much effort goes into a crate for the night. When outside, he is quiet so far. With construction taking place in the back yard, Alton has also done well in a kennel during the day. He doesn't seem to know much in the way of commands, although has learned sit and bed. Alton is a sweet boy, he loves to have his head and ears rubbed, and will place his head in your lap, and rub up against you like a cat for attention. Further socialization and formal obedience training will turn Alton into the best dog for the right home.

This is a Level 2 Dog!
