AnitaAnita Head

Anita was a very pregnant unclaimed stray from the Modesto area so nothing is known about her background. However we have made a few educated guesses.

She shows signs of having had several litters of puppies, and was very self sufficient when she had her final litter shortly after coming into rescue. She is an excellent and very competent mama dog, rarely leaving her puppies during their early weeks.

We and our vet have estimated her age at around 7 years old. She weighs an ideal 67 lbs with substantial bones. Our vet says she is incredibly healthy other than well-worn teeth.

Anita had clearly never been allowed in a house, and showed signs of being kept in a kennel environment. But older dogs CAN learn new tricks and boy, does Anita love being in the house now!

She loves having a soft dog bed to lay on, and she loves following her person from room to room. She loves visitors of all sizes. She does not get on any of the furniture, and she has learned how to go potty outside.

She also loves food, and can be a bit of a bulldozer to get it. She is polite but pushy, and if left loose in the home when no one is home, she will counter surf, get in the garbage and may eat anything that even smells like food. But she happily goes into her crate whenever asked. Currently she is fed in her crate and stays in there whenever her foster mom needs to run errands; a rawhide or stuffed Kong help her pass the time.

She sleeps loose in her foster mom's room on a soft dog bed. Sometimes Anita does snore, but not too bad. In fact, its sort of cute!

She doesn't know many commands, but she walks very politely on a leash. She is low energy but does enjoy a leisurely stroll now and then. Anita never jumps up, she only gives the most ladylike of kisses, and she gives excellent hugs. She loves squeaky toys. And she rides very politely in a vehicle.

Anita does not nuisance bark, but she will bark when she gets excited, especially at feeding time. She will go to the door when someone knocks, but does not try to escape, instead expecting to welcome guests and get some attention.

Anita can be overly dominant with other adult dogs, especially females. She is ok with her non-dominant adolescent male foster brother but likes to nip at his heels if he runs. It is unknown how she is with cats, critters, or small dogs.

Anita's ideal home will be as an only dog, with a family who will give her plenty of hugs and attention. She would love a soft dog bed and some treats too! Anita appears to have given many years of service having puppies and now this sweet girl deserves to be spoiled rotten and in return she will give that special someone her total loyalty and devotion.
