CutterCutter 2008 Head

Cutter was originally adopted out in 2008 and was recently returned to us after an unexpected death in his adoptive family.

He is a large, darker black and tan male, around 5 years old. He's housebroken, and knows his basic commands, but needs a very strong leader to make sure he follows them. He is somewhat of a drama queen, and when he doesn't get his way, wants to use his body weight to push or pull in protest. He needs to be reminded of his manners including not jumping up on people who come to greet him.

Cutter is a loving boy who enjoys other dogs, both large and small, and would do best in a home with a playmate. He loves going for car rides, hikes, and just about any type of activity with his family. He can burn off some extra energy by troting on the treadmill, or playing in a pool.

He will need a home with clearly set rules and boundries, and strong enough leadership to enforce compliance.

This is a Level 3 Dog and will only go to a true Level 3 home. Please be sure you understand what this level of dog requires.

Original bio & pictures, October 2008:

Cutter is a drop-dead gorgeous youngster, around 10-11 months old in a classic black and tan coat. He's out of German import lines and has that go-go-go attitude. Cutter is a medium-sized, solid boy and should fill out to around 85 pounds. He was born to trot and trot he does, smoothly, effortlessly, and endlessly.

This very active young man is very well-socialized to other dogs and LOVES to play rough and tumble with the big boys. When he slows down long enough, he's affectionate to his person, but he much prefers wrestling with his buddies. He would overwhelm smaller creatures and would run over the top of small children.

Cutter came into our program with a dreadful lack of anything resembling manners or training, and had learned that he could use his strength and bratty behavior to get his way. He has a long way to go to become civilized, but he is settling down with clear rules, discipline and leadership. He's very vocal and will wail, whine, cry, bark and yodel if he's excited or frustrated. He has a tendency to come straight up on his hind legs when he's restrained. Once his brain is engaged, he learns fairly quickly, and has learned he must Sit and Wait before he gets much of anything, and rearing up doesn't get him anywhere.

Cutter needs a home with a strong owner who is very experienced with unruly young male German Shepherds, and understands how to keep an active dog well-socialized and fulfilled. He will only go to someone who will give him a purpose and work him hard enough to satisfy his drive to do something. He needs another dog buddy to wrestle with to make him happy.

This is a Level 3 Dog and will only go to a true Level 3 home.
