Gracie

Gracie is an 18 month old female who was an unclaimed stray out of the Sacramento area. She came into the shelter with a severe non-contagious skin infection. After substantial bathing and shaving, the skin is now healing. While her coat looks a little funny now, once her skin fully heals and her hair grows back, this girl will be stunning.

Gracie is a sweet girl who has loved everyone she has met so far. She still likes to jump up, so care needs to be taken with small children. Gracie has gotten along with all of the large male and female dogs in her foster home, she loves to rough and tumble with her foster buddy Hawkeye. She was curious about the resident outdoor cat, but not over the top with him. Gracie may be able to live with cats, but careful supervision would be required.

Gracie was a little unsure of the crate at first, but is quickly learning to sleep quietly all night. She will protest a little at first when put in the outdoor kennel, but quickly settles, particularly if she has a bone to keep her entertained. She definitely wants to be with her people as much as possible, but is not real clingy. Much of the world is new to Gracie. She seems to have some familiarity with a house, but stairs were a little challenge at first. Gracie is not real sure about riding in the car, and has gotten sick on one occasion, but with practice, she is now jumping in on her own, and hopefully the upset tummy will stop when she is more used to riding. Gracie does not seem to know any commands other than sit, and doesn't have much in the way of leash manners, but the girl wants to learn. Although it is not confirmed that Gracie is fully housebroken, she has not had an accident in the house so far.

The ideal home for Gracie would be one that has someone willing to work with her to continue her socialization, and start obedience training with her. So she can become the awesome girl we know she was meant to be. A playful male dog of similar size would also be good, but not necessary.
