GretchenGretchen Head

Gretchen is a petite, classic black and tan female, around a year old and weighing in at a whopping 47 pounds. She was an unclaimed stray from Modesto.

This little livewire is very playful with other dogs, and her small size does not stop her from telling the largest dog on the playground that's she's ready to wrestle! She's a typical, bossy German Shepherd girl when it comes to other dogs, yet she is social enough to know just how far she can push other dogs and avoid a brawl.

She is crate-trained, housebroken and sleeps quietly in a crate all night. Gretchen is an active dog whose mind is always alert. She knows the second her foster mom steps out of the kitchen and leaves a bowl of tomato bisque soup with garlic croutons and a butter dish unattended! Needless to say she is very food- motivated and picks up on training quite quickly.

If left unattended for long periods of time, she may chew something, but if someone is around and she is excercised enough, she is content. She may bark for a short time if kennelled, but then settles down. She enjoys jogging on the treadmill, and going for car rides. Her recall is excellent, and thus far, she can be trusted off-leash. Gretchen is very people and other dog oriented, so she doesn't want to be left out of the fun. She would do best with another playful dog, and an active family. She hasn't met anyone she didn't like so far. It appears she could live with a dog-savvy cat, but if the cat runs, she will chase it. She will also play fetch with a ball.
