HaydenHayden Head

Hayden is a bi-color male GSD with a lush and shiny black coat, who is approximately 1.5 years old. This handsome boy has the classic bi-color look with golden paw and facial markings. He was an owner surrender to a local area shelter when his family moved and was unable to take him to their new home. Hayden is a very playful and bright boy, who loves to run, jump, and chase toys along with his current foster pack.

Hayden appears to be housebroken, and sleeps comfortably in a crate, but you'd better be ready to be licked by an excited, happy boy when he wakes up to start the day! He appears to have had little formal training, but he understand basic commands such as sit, wait, and down. He's also working on leave it/take it and stay and recall, and is making great progress. Hayden responds well to treat rewards during training, but is so praise motivated that it won't take much for him to advance.

For a bigger guy (about 80 lbs.), Hayden walks very well on a leash, and takes corrections easily. He has a soft mouth, and seems to prefer plush and squeaky toys to harder chew toys like Nylabones. He's also learning quickly from his temporary pack mates that the coolest toy is not necessarily the one any other dog has at any given time! Hayden always up for a little peanut butter dog biscuit, but his favorite snack treat is probably baby carrots.

So far, Hayden has gotten along well with the three large dogs in him foster home, but is still learning the boundaries of playing with them, as you'd expect from a younger dog. He has shown very little interest in the two resident indoor cats, but will need further evaluation before being deemed fully cat safe.

Hayden rides well in the car, preferring to hand his head outside, but will eventually lie down on seat when tired. He enjoys being outside with him pack, whether out on a walk, or just chillin' in the yard where he prefers a shady spot under the tree to sunning on the deck. Most of the time when indoors, he's just as happy enjoying quiet time on a dog bed, or lying under the kitchen table especially to be around his human pack leaders in the evening.

Based on his very social nature, we think Hayden would we well in a home with another Dog, but could also do well in a single Dog home. With his playful personality, and energetic play style, Hayden would do well in a home with young dog savvy children. Wherever he finds him forever home, this loving and very bright boy will no doubt flourish upon completing a full course of formal obedience training with his new owners.
