Maverick

Maverick is an extremely handsome black and tan sable male about two years old. He was a stray from a Sacramento area shelter, so nothing is known of his background. Currently Maverick is very thin. He eats well, so he should start putting on weight soon so his ribs don"t show. He is a tall dog and looks tough, but is very sweet, affectionate and has a nice temperament.

With the use of a prong collar, Maverick walks well on a leash and did not have any issues walking through crowds of people and a sea of dogs at a recent event. We were even together on stage in a line up next to a Cocker Spaniel with no reaction from Maverick. He is currently living with two male German Shepherds and a female shepherd about his age and cats. He and the female love to play and wrestle. He seems to ignore the cats in the house, but because he isn't quite housebroken isn't given freedom to run loose inside. There is a big doghouse outside with a dog door to go in and out of it. Maverick does go through the dog door and uses the doghouse sometimes. It is possible he wouldn't have accidents in a house with a dog door to the outside.

Maverick jumps into the car and rides nicely. He is learning basic commands and is sitting when fed. At night, Maverick is sleeping through the night in a crate, but will whine if you get out of his sight. When excited, this boy will jump on people and get mouthy, so he should not go to a home with small children or adopters unfamiliar with correcting this behavior. With further obedience training, regular exercise, and continuous socialization, this boy will be the best dog ever.
