NewtonNewton Head

Newton is a large, handsome male, primarily black with some tan on all four legs and 18-24 months old. Although we don't have an actual weight on him, Newton doesn't look like he's missed many meals and can actually lose a few pounds. He came from a Sacramento area shelter as a stray, so nothing is known of his background.

He is doing well in his foster home with two senior male German Shepherds and a 2 1/2 year old female German Shepherd. He's just beginning to play with whichever dog he can get to engage with him. A home with another playful dog to match Newton's style would be a bonus for him. He also likes a good game of fetch with a tennis ball. He didn't respond well to a small dog brought near him while both were on leash, so we do not feel he would be good for a home with small dogs. He is learning to live with dog-savvy cats, however.

Newton appears to be housebroken, knows some basic commands, and has nice house manners. When outside, Newton entertains himself and has been very quiet. He does not know about stairs and was petrified to go up a flight. He also doesn't like or has difficulty getting into cars higher off the ground than a sedan, but once in, rides nicely. He did get in and out of a Prius without any problems. Newton likes to play with the buckets of water, but usually ends up tipping them over. So far, Newton seems to be a happy-go-lucky guy. He is very affectionate and calms down quickly inside the house.

He has not been around children, but due to his size we would only recommend children 10 YO and above. An active home that will include Newton in family life and willing to continue his training will be rewarded with one awesome dog.
