Oso BearOso Bear Head

Estimated to be four years old, Oso Bear is an easy-going male weighing around 90 pounds. He has a full chest and stocky build. With that and his full, thick fur, his name is descriptive. He was surrendered with sadness by his owners when they experienced significant financial changes.

Oso Bear is calm, gentle, happy and affectionate. He has nice manners with people, and sits to ask to be patted, particularly for children. In his previous home, he lived nicely with small children. He will also nudge an elbow now and then, to remind you to pat him. He likes to follow his foster around, and has a happily wagging tail and smile when his foster gets home. He is cautious when an unknown man first tries to pat him, but will warm up and ask for more pats if he feels the man is trustworthy.

Oso Bear learns quickly, and was following various hand signals and commands used at his foster home within a couple of days, apparently picking these up on his own. He is just learning to walk on a leash, but is not difficult. He takes treats gently from the hand, and will scrape peanut butter - including imbedded pills - softly and carefully from an outstretched finger.

He has generally nice house manners but may sneak onto the sofa when he thinks no one is looking. He sits for his food bowl, and so far he has selected only appropriate dog toys and bones for chewing. He settles well in the living room in the evenings, and rests quietly and patiently at work with his foster dad. He seems to be fully house-trained, has had no accidents, and will whine subtly when he needs to go out. He goes into his crate readily at bedtime, and sleeps quietly through the night. He will briefly register, with whining, objections to things he doesn't like, such as being made to wait outside while dinners are prepared, or his foster driving away, but stops after a minute or two. Oso Bear hops into the car readily and rides well once he settles in, especially if he can be near the driver. He will alarm bark at noises on the other side of the fence, but stops once he has sounded the alert.

Oso Bear gets along well with the two other German Shepherds in his foster home, preferring harmony to friction. At the same time, he is not afraid to calmly bulldoze in or bump shoulders when he wants something, like a toy, or attention. He plays softly with the playful dog, but walks away when it gets too vigorous.

Oso Bear will make a wonderful family pet, charming, easy, and full of love.

NO CATS. Small dogs unknown.
