Posey

SPECIAL NEEDS

Posey is a tiny loving female who was an unclaimed stray out of the Modesto area. She has a longer coat, and one adorable floppy ear. She came into the shelter emaciated with a poorly healed broken front leg, and an unhealed broken back leg as well, which was caused by unknown trauma, but likely a car, according to the vet. After having surgery on her hip, she is now healing, and she is learning to walk properly on that leg again. Posey also has poor teeth, making it very difficult to even guess her age. Our best guess is probably 2-3 years old.

Given her severe neglect and rough start in life, Posey is a sweet girl who has loved everyone she has met so far, and is easy and gentle when meeting children. Care must be taken with food, as Posey is a little possessive with other dogs around her food bowl, and snaps when taking treats.

While Posey wasn't up for much interaction when she first reached her foster home, now that she is eating regular meals, and is healing from her surgery she is now enjoying short play periods with the other dogs in her foster home. She will sleep quietly in a crate all night, but can also sleep free. During her recovery, Posey has been left free inside the house, while her foster parents are at work, and so far has been proven trustworthy. She appears to be housebroken, and enjoys car rides. She needs continued leash work, and basic obedience training.

The ideal home for Posey would be one that wants to include her in their daily activities. Another easygoing dog of similar size would also be good, but not necessary. Posey has moderate energy, but doesn't need a lot of exercise, due to her joints. She will likely need anti-inflammatory medication for her wrist and hip during her lifetime.
