Schatzie Schatzie Head

Schatzie is a petite little girl with a classic black and tan coat, around 7 months old. Schatzie was an unclaimed stray from the Modesto shelter so nothing is known of her background.

This little girl is full of spunk and energy, and has been busy learning the skills to be a successful member of a family. She walks on a leash nicely, stays off of counters and furniture, stays out of the trash, sits, waits, is 97% potty trained, and sleeps quietly in a crate. She is vocal if she thinks she has been in the crate too long.

Though Schatzie accepts a quick pat from strangers she meets and has tolerated large crowds well, she takes a while to really warm up to a person. Once she does, she enjoys coming to them for attention and reassurance, and likes to follow them around or even be underfoot. She prefers to have her human nearby when she eats.

With appropriate dog toys and old marrow bones available, Schatzie has so far confined her chewing exclusively to them, leaving household objects alone. In the evening, she enjoys taking a whole pile of bones to her dog cushion to chew. She likes to sleep with her pink monkey toy. Given a good walk and adequate play time with other dogs, she settles nicely indoors in the living room, or at the office where she has been going to work with her foster. Schatzie alarm barks at noises outside the front door or gate.

Schatzie can be a little timid in unfamiliar situations, but once she feels comfortable, she becomes a happy, bouncy puppy. So far she has gotten along with all the dogs that have passed through or reside in her foster home, male and female. She loves to rough-house with the other playful dogs in her foster home, and gives them a run for their money.

She is very interested in cats, and learning to live with the two in her foster home. She will ignore or just sniff the cat who remains still. She chases moving cats to play, but does not seem aggressive. She corrects easily on this, and perhaps could learn to live with cats with time, training and good supervision. It is unknown how she is with kids at this time, but still being a little mouthy and timid, caution should be taken with small children.

The ideal home for this cute, fiesty little girl will have strong leadership with established boundaries. She will do best in a home with another dog that enjoys vigorous play, and where she has a job such as heeling on a walk daily. She will need someone willing to take the time and effort to continue her education and growth into a loyal, loving adult dog.

This is a Level 3 Dog. Please be sure you understand what a dog of this Level requires.
