ShirinShirin Head

Shirin, meaning 'sweet', was surrendered to a Sacramento area shelter with untreated skin problems, and a bad hip. With proper care, her skin troubles are clearing up nicely, and she is scheduled for FHO hip surgery April 9th. She is an attractive black and tan, approximately 7 years old, medium-small and weighing approximately 60 lbs.

Shirin is a tail-wagging, happy and very affectionate dog, who likes nothing better than being patted. A house princess, her favorite place is by her human's side, preferably on a comfy dog bed next to her foster dad's easy chair. She follows her foster dad wherever he goes in the house. She is fully house-trained, has excellent house manners, and can be trusted indoors alone for hours at a time. She has been going to work with her foster dad, settling quietly and patiently all day. She follows commands without prompting, and trains easily.

She sits for pats and dinner. She loves to eat, and will require a family that will appropriately measure her food and monitor her weight. She came to us underfed and underweight, but quickly got up to a healthy weight. With other dogs, she has to be kept from eating their food after quickly finishing her own, though she will share her bowl with the cat. A nice butcher bone after dinner helps take her mind off excessive eating.

She rides nicely in a car, with no car sickness. She goes readily into her crate with the command "let's go to bed", and sleeps quietly through the night, not stirring until her people are up and around. Her foster dad no longer closes the crate door at night, and she could just as well sleep loose on a dog bed in the bedroom. She walks nicely on leash and enjoys her walks, but does not require much exercise. Shirin alarm barks when the doorbell rings, or unknown noises are heard, but does not nuisance bark.

Shirin is excellent with cats, pretty much ignoring the two cats in her foster home, even when the rowdy cat plays with her wagging tail. With other dogs, she initially shows a dominant side, but is not looking for a fight. She is living nicely with four other German Shepherds in her foster home.

Overall, Shirin is a turn-key pet, very loving, fun, and a delight to have around. She is looking for a nice family to love and call her own, and will be a wonderful addition.
