VirgilVirgil Head

Virgil is an 89 lb., 2 1/2 year old, black and tan male, in need of losing about 15 lbs. He was adopted six months ago, but returned. The reason we were told was he didn't do well being left alone 8-10 hrs during weekdays and because he played too rough with the 5 year old child in the home. Originally, Virgil came as a stray from a Sacramento shelter, so nothing is known of his background before then.

Virgil is now in a foster home with 3 other dogs and 4 cats and does well with all of them. He has moderate energy, but will engage in play with the young female German Shepherd in the foster home. He has nice house manners, is housebroken, and knows his basic commands. He waits nicely when it's time to eat and won't eat until given the OK. When no one is home, Virigil is left with other dogs and hasn't shown any problems or issues.

Virgil can sleep in or out of his crate, but does do better in a crate. He tends to pace and act a little insecure at night when he's not crated. When excited and/or anxious, Virgil becomes whinny. Most of the time, he will settle down and lay at your feet nicely. Frequently, Virgil looks at you with a tilted head as if to question what's going on. His ears have been checked and cleared of any problems.

Continued exercise, training and socialization is what Virgil needs most. He would prefer to have another dog companion, unless in a home where his people are home most of the time. He also would be best in a home with children 12 years old or older.
