Zanko is a 1.5 year old male Malinois. Zanko came to us as an owner surrender because he they said he didn't have the temperament to be a serious watch dog. He was originally a stray at the shelter and then adopted by his prior owner, so we know a little bit about his background since they had him about 6 months.
According to his prior owner, Zanko does not like being left alone. When he's out outside alone he tends to bark and try to find his way back into the house, this includes hopping the fence. Zanko is very attached to other dogs, he's even been socialized at the dog park before he came into our program. Because of his separation anxiety and attachment to other dogs, we are requiring for him to go to a home with a similar sized, playful dog.
Zanko is also rumored to be a major cuddler and enjoys being wherever his people are. For a Malinois, he is considered to have a lower energy level than the breed standard, typically high energy and a working dog. He will still require daily exercise and someone who can give him that.
He is very smart and knows how to shake with both paws, sit and heel. Out on a walk, if he knows you are not in charge, he will take advantage of that and drag you all over the place. Once he realizes that kind of behavior isn't allowed, he falls back into a nice heel.
Zanko is potty trained and also crate trained. Zanko is incredibly social and loves getting as much attention from any humans that he possibly can, and he will bond strongly and quickly to whatever person is working with him.
Zanko would be an excellent addition to an active family with another dog that enjoys taking their dogs everywhere.
Zanko will need continued socialization and training.
This is a Level 3 Dog. Please be sure you understand what a dog of this Level requires.
